Welcome to Heene Church of England (Aided) Primary School

Welcome to Heene Church of England Primary School! As Headteacher, I am delighted to welcome you to our website and to our school.

We are blessed to be situated here in the heart of the central Worthing community. We have so much close by; our two churches (St Botolph's and St Matthew's) with whom we work so closely, our park opposite the school, local businesses and the beach a short walk away.

Our vision is: ‘Together we love, grow and learn’.

We are a vibrant community where everyone is valued and where all talents are celebrated. Every pupil is unique and together we form a harmonious and vibrant school.
    Our newly revised values are:

    • Kindness
    • Confidence
    • Resilience
    • Ambition
    • Curiosity
    • Respect

At Heene School, we always put kindness first. We think this is a great rule for life.

These are the six values that we, the staff and Governors, want to help your child develop during their time at our school. All our learning is linked to these values in some way.

I joined the school in February 2024, after 10 years of successful headship in East Sussex. Our newly created leadership team, and team of great teachers and support staff, are excited about the rapid improvements that we are making in our school, now that we are part of the Diocese of Chichester Academy Trust.  We are a happy school, improving rapidly each day.

Whether you are a current parent, or looking for a school place for your child, I would be delighted to show you our wonderful school. Please contact our school office for a tour of the school or book to visit on one of our Open Days or the Open Evening in November.

I look forward to welcoming you and your child soon.

    08/06/25

This week, we celebrate the Festival of Pentecost. This is sometimes referred to as the church’s birthday because, 50 days after Easter, Jesus’ disciples, filled with God’s gift of the Holy Spirit, started teaching everyone about Jesus. So many people wanted to know more that lots of groups started to gather in groups to listen to what the disciples had to say. Soon the disciples became known as teachers, or apostles, and the groups were called churches. Our school will celebrate Pentecost at St Matthew’s Church on Thursday 19th June.

Dear Lord, you sent your Spirit to be with the disciples, filling them with joy, peace and courage. Fill us with your Spirit and help us to have the courage to share your peace and joy in our world today. Amen.

This week we pray particularly for those responsible for the safety of our school community. Our Senior Leadership Team ensures that Safeguarding training and recording are up-to-date.  Each member of our staff is responsible for ensuring that the school is a safe place for children and adults to work and in which trustworthy relationships are fostered.

Dear Lord, help us to cherish children and all in our community. Protect them and keep them safe. May our school rejoice that it is a place where your love is celebrated. Amen

Each member of staff at our school has found this half term has flown by. Indeed, because Easter was at the end of April, there have been barely 5 weeks during which the children have been in school. Consequently, each week has been action packed. During this half-term break, therefore, we pray that staff and children alike can draw breath, taking time to enjoy the freedom that holidays bring.

Dear Lord Jesus, as we pray for the whole school community, we ask that you will care for each family as they plan the week ahead, surrounding them with your love every day. Amen

These beautiful Spring days remind us how wonderful the trees look at this time of year. We are fortunate in Worthing to have so many street trees, some of which are looked after by people who live nearby. We give thanks for the beauty of nature all around us. This week we pray for all the plans to make the areas around our school nature friendly. The whole school community is being encouraged to become involved in this endeavour by donating plants and gardening equipment so that creative spaces will encourage the flourishing of flowers and insects.

Dear Lord, we thank you for the huge variety of plants and animals that make up our beautiful world. Amen

    12/05/25

This week sees the beginning of the SATS tests for our year 6 pupils. Since the beginning of the Spring Term, the teachers and support staff have been preparing the children for this week and their first experience of formal testing. To help them perform to the best of their ability, breakfast is provided each day. The well-being of all the children in our school is of paramount importance, and this is just one example of the care and attention given by our dedicated staff.

Dear Lord, we thank you that you provide us with the assurance of your presence. Draw near to our Y6 pupils and their teachers during these SATS tests. Remind them of the words of a hymn they know well: ‘Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy one is here.’ Amen

Our school is fortunate to have Teaching Assistants who are extremely dedicated to their work supporting teachers and children alike. Whilst the school as a whole relies on their enthusiasm and skills in order to flourish both academically and socially, individual children benefit significantly from their quiet encouragement. Such relationships help foster trust, confidence and resilience.

Dear Lord, Help us to never take our teaching assistants for granted and may they know that their contribution to our school is always appreciated. Give them your wisdom and strength as they continue to give their support to all who need a helping hand. Amen
