  • Our Safeguarding curriculum

At Heene CE Primary School, keeping children safe is at the heart of everything we do. Our safeguarding curriculum is carefully designed to help pupils understand how to protect themselves, build positive relationships and know where to go for help.

Safeguarding is taught through our PSHE, RSE, computing and wider curriculum, as well as through assemblies, themed weeks and everyday interactions. Children learn about staying safe in a wide range of contexts, including online safety, healthy relationships, bullying, mental health and wellbeing, and how to recognise and respond to risks. This learning is age-appropriate and builds progressively from Early Years through to Year 6.

We place a strong emphasis on helping children understand their rights, personal boundaries and the importance of consent. Pupils are taught how to recognise when something doesn’t feel right and are given the confidence and vocabulary to speak out. They are regularly reminded that there are trusted adults in school who will listen and help them.

Our school provides multiple ways for children to share worries or concerns, including speaking to any adult, using worry boxes or classroom systems, and through structured lessons and support sessions. This ensures every child feels heard, valued and supported.

We also work closely with families to promote safety beyond the classroom, sharing guidance on areas such as online safety and wellbeing. Our dedicated safeguarding team, including trained Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) ensure that children and families receive the right support at the right time.

Through our Christian vision, “Together in faith we love, grow and learn,” we create a nurturing and protective environment where every child feels safe, respected and ready to thrive.
