Modern Foreign Languages Curriculum Statement

Learning a foreign language enables children to develop communication and literacy skills and to deepen their understanding of the world and of their role as global citizens.

At Heene, in Key Stage 2, French is taught with a focus on practical communication linked to cross-curricular activities. Children learn to listen and show understanding, to explore patterns and sounds of language, and to communicate in speech and writing.  Our younger children develop their linguistic and cultural awareness by exploring and celebrating a variety of languages, including those spoken in our school community, for example through songs, stories and games.
